Private Lessons: Piano

Opus offers private piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.

We start piano lessons at any age from age 6 onward. Our research and experience has shown us that most students are ready for more focused private piano lessons by age 8 but not most of them are ready at age 6 due to coordination and maturity level.

Our private piano lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. For our advanced piano students we have teachers with master’s degrees in piano who can prepare them for college or university entrance.

We offer most styles of piano lessons from classical, jazz and contemporary pop. We have students who want to play just for fun and students who wish excel with the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. Our Arts Administrators able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest. It’s just as important to understand the theory and purpose behind the music we’re playing as it is to actually be able to play it. Combined with a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to try new things, students will approach their music holistically and come to a complete understanding of the material. Cameron graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Composition for Media and is on track to graduate with a Masters in Film Scoring with distinction.

A former elementary music teacher, Laura takes pride in her sensitivity to young people’s needs. She always works to meet students where they are, understanding that teaching piano is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Laura makes learning fun and accessible, while still holding her students to high standards. She considers herself incredibly fortunate to get to share her love of music with students of all ages. One of her college professors said it best: “We don’t teach music, we teach people.”

Music is one of the few subjects where students are actively involved in their learning. During my lessons, students are singing, moving, and playing their instrument as much as possible. By facilitating lessons in this way, we’re able to create a hands-on, active learning experience.
