Opus offers private piano voice for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.

We start private voice lessons from age 6 onward. Our research and experience has shown us that most students are ready for more focused private voice lessons by age 8 but not many of them are ready at age 6 due to vocal anatomy development and maturity level.

Our private voice lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. For our advanced voice students we have teachers with master’s degrees in piano who can prepare them for college or university entrance.

We offer most styles of voice lessons from classical, contemporary pop, musical theater, and jazz. We have students who want to sing just for fun and students who wish to excel with the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. Our Arts Administrators are able to match students with a teacher that works best for their particular age, ability and interest. If you are not sure which teacher would be the best match for your child, call us!

It’s just as important to understand the theory and purpose behind the music we’re playing as it is to actually be able to play it. Combined with a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to try new things, students will approach their music holistically and come to a complete understanding of the material. Cameron graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Composition for Media and is on track to graduate with a Masters in Film Scoring with distinction.

Music is one of the ways our soul communicates with other souls. When we play music independently, or with other musicians, it is a conversation that happens regardless of our upbringings, language barriers, or personal beliefs.

The goal of our lessons is to learn the fundamentals of the language of music in a joyful way so we can eventually give voice to our souls.

Learning any instrument should start with finding music that you enjoy listening to. I use lesson books and exercises as a tool to get some foundational skills on any instrument in order to help students learn music they are really into, but I don’t make that the primary focus of my lessons. One important thing I ask all my students to do throughout their week is to listen to music and find things they care enough about to learn. I want every student I work with to be able to find things to work on and work on them more and more on their own as they get better at reading and memorizing music. I’m a big advocate for students becoming autonomous learners as they progress as I think it’s a really important life skill that everyone should develop. The biggest thing I want all of my students to do though, is to have fun and really enjoy the little triumphs of learning to play an instrument or sing. I think the best part of my week is when one of my students get something that was a little bit of challenge when we started with it. Being able to see that progress is something I’m very grateful for as a teacher.
