Concerts, Recitals, Gigs & Playing Parties
Our concerts, recitals, gigs and playing parties are the perfect atmosphere for our students to show family and friends the results of months of learning and practice. They are organized and designed to eliminate “stage fright” and help performers build self esteem.
Q. What is the difference between concerts, recitals, gigs, and playing parties?
A:
Concerts: We sponsor one large, full-scale concert opportunity known as Polyroux Music Festival, complete with a stage, sound system, lights, smoke machine, raffle prizes and an enthusiastic audience! The yearly music festival is held the 1st Saturday of June at The Old Liberty Theater in Ridgefield, Wa. Concert tickets are sold for admission into the Music Festival.
Recitals: We sponsor one recital a year called our Fall Showcase. This is the place where we feature our younger beginner musicians of all skill sets. There are not any concert fees for recitals we sponsor.
Gigs: The word “gig” is shortened version of engagement created by jazz musicians in the 1920s. We organize little gigs around the community for our students, both as soloists, combos, and bands. Our students consistently tell us how cool it is that they get to go and do a gig. The community appreciates the asset and energy of them. Join our ‘Jam Band’ and become a member for life! Anytime the Jam Band has a ‘gig’ any and all Jam Band members are welcome to join. You can learn more about our Jam Band program here.
Performance Workshops: We hold these twice a year, known as Performance Workshops. These workshops are during a regular week of lessons three weeks before our recitals and year-end concert (Polyroux). Students perform in front of each other, during their regular lesson time. We discuss topics topics such as stage fright or being nervous, which they can take along with them for the rest of their school and public speaking lives. They also receive positive feedback from teachers and peers to help them improve their performance.
