Opus offers private piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.

We start piano lessons at any age from age 6 onward. Our research and experience has shown us that most students are ready for more focused private piano lessons by age 8 but not most of them are ready at age 6 due to coordination and maturity level.

Our private piano lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. For our advanced piano students we have teachers with master’s degrees in piano who can prepare them for college or university entrance.

We offer most styles of piano lessons from classical, jazz and contemporary pop. We have students who want to play just for fun and students who wish excel with the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. Our Arts Administrators able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest. I believe that learning music should be a fun and enjoyable process for every student that comes through the door seeking to learn how to play an instrument. My goal is to create a learning environment where a student can feel free to ask questions (No question is a bad question!), experiment with and explore the why’s of music, and also learn songs that they will enjoy playing over and over. The greatest growth comes when students are invested in their own learning, and through the collaboration of the teacher, student, and parent, we can explore and unlock the student’s inner passion for, and love of, music.

It’s just as important to understand the theory and purpose behind the music we’re playing as it is to actually be able to play it. Combined with a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to try new things, students will approach their music holistically and come to a complete understanding of the material. Cameron graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Composition for Media and is on track to graduate with a Masters in Film Scoring with distinction.

I believe that everyone has a voice. Each singer is different, with a distinct style and composition of the voice. In my lessons I let my students tell me what they want to accomplish with their voice and aid them on their musical journey. Music is a language of its own, expressive and feeling. In my lessons, I get you connected to the piece you’re singing and what you are singing about. I earned my bachelors in Music Education at Central Washington University and have studied under various teachers all with different styles. Throughout my musical career I have studied Pop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Folk, Classical, as well as Opera. As I continue to grow as a musician, I bring my new vocal scientific findings to my students so we can learn together because the learning journey never stops.

One of her college professors said it best: “We don’t teach music, we teach people.”

I love to see my students achieve excellence and develop a deeper love for music making! I strive to bring solid pedagogy, connection, and enthusiasm to each and every lesson. With my own experience in instrumental and choral performance and formal university training, my ultimate goal is for my students to become independent learners.

Learning any instrument should start with finding music that you enjoy listening to. I use lesson books and exercises as a tool to get some foundational skills on any instrument in order to help students learn music they are really into, but I don’t make that the primary focus of my lessons. One important thing I ask all my students to do throughout their week is to listen to music and find things they care enough about to learn. I want every student I work with to be able to find things to work on and work on them more and more on their own as they get better at reading and memorizing music. I’m a big advocate for students becoming autonomous learners as they progress as I think it’s a really important life skill that everyone should develop. The biggest thing I want all of my students to do though, is to have fun and really enjoy the little triumphs of learning to play an instrument or sing. I think the best part of my week is when one of my students get something that was a little bit of challenge when we started with it. Being able to see that progress is something I’m very grateful for as a teacher.

Music is one of the few subjects where students are actively involved in their learning. During my lessons, students are singing, moving, and playing their instrument as much as possible. By facilitating lessons in this way, we’re able to create a hands-on, active learning experience.
