Opus offers private lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.

We typically start private lessons from age 6 onward. Our research and experience has shown us that most students are ready for more focused private lessons by age 8 but not most of them are ready at age 6 due to coordination and maturity level.

Our private lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. *If you wish to register for a 45-minute or 60-minute spot, simply register for a 30-minute spot that has another opening afterward then call our friendly front desk staff to inform them of your intention.

For our advanced students we have teachers with master’s degrees who can prepare them for college or university entrance.

We offer most styles of lessons from classical, jazz, rock, musical theater, contemporary pop, old time folk, bluegrass, etc. We have students who want to play just for fun and students who wish excel with the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. Our Arts Administrators able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest. Teacher AmandaFlute - Piano - Superstars - Piano Team
I earned my bachelor’s in flute performance at Central Washington University. Since then, I have had several years teaching private lessons, performing with local symphony orchestras, and playing in pit orchestras. One of my favorite things about teaching private lessons is my ability to meet the needs of individual students with a singular-focused attention and effort. I delight in working with students of all ages and instilling music skills and the love for music that lasts a lifetime.

I believe that learning music should be a fun and enjoyable process for every student that comes through the door seeking to learn how to play an instrument. My goal is to create a learning environment where a student can feel free to ask questions (No question is a bad question!), experiment with and explore the why’s of music, and also learn songs that they will enjoy playing over and over. The greatest growth comes when students are invested in their own learning, and through the collaboration of the teacher, student, and parent, we can explore and unlock the student’s inner passion for, and love of, music.

Teacher CameronPiano - Voice - Glee - Superstars -Piano Team
It’s just as important to understand the theory and purpose behind the music we’re playing as it is to actually be able to play it. Combined with a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to try new things, students will approach their music holistically and come to a complete understanding of the material. Cameron graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Composition for Media and is on track to graduate with a Masters in Film Scoring with distinction.

Growing up there was never a time when music did not play a significant part in my life. I was raised listening to everything from Gene Autry to Van Cliburn.

I remember always wanting to take music lessons. Fortunately for me my mother was always happy to indulge me.

Throughout my life I’ve studied, violin, piano, guitar, mandolin, and percussion. The experiences only furthered my love for music. Ultimately these studies provided me the opportunity to perform as a musician in various ways: as a solo artist, as a member of a variety of musical groups, and as a session studio musician. I have also performed with several symphony orchestras and I served my country as a member of the United States Marine Corps Band.

Now as a music teacher I want to pass along to my students the magic in music. Not just have them learn how to play an instrument, but to have them experience the joy it can bring to their lives.

The core philosophy that drives my teaching is empowering students to live lives full of positive and meaningful musical experiences. In addition to building students’ confidence in their own musicianship and technique, I encourage exploration and independent learning. My goal is for my students to be well-rounded musicians who are not only confident performers but also advocates for the arts, equipped to enjoy and share music throughout their lives.

Teacher Paul also teaches beginning voice.

Music is one of the ways our soul communicates with other souls. When we play music independently, or with other musicians, it is a conversation that happens regardless of our upbringings, language barriers, or personal beliefs.

The goal of our lessons is to learn the fundamentals of the language of music in a joyful way so we can eventually give voice to our souls.

“I believe that, to achieve growth and success in any talent, skill, or industry, you must be willing to look for – and find – what works. As a previous student of many old-school, old-world music teachers, I know what works. However, I also believe that, to achieve lasting growth and success, you must be willing to combine what works with what’s enjoyable. I try to make each lesson as instructive and informative as possible, while engaging with my students in ways that foster curiosity and independence. With each one of my students and lessons, I’ll teach technique, musicianship, and discipline, while striving to adapt my teaching style to each students’ individual needs and goals.”

Learning any instrument should start with finding music that you enjoy listening to. I use lesson books and exercises as a tool to get some foundational skills on any instrument in order to help students learn music they are really into, but I don’t make that the primary focus of my lessons. One important thing I ask all my students to do throughout their week is to listen to music and find things they care enough about to learn. I want every student I work with to be able to find things to work on and work on them more and more on their own as they get better at reading and memorizing music. I’m a big advocate for students becoming autonomous learners as they progress as I think it’s a really important life skill that everyone should develop. The biggest thing I want all of my students to do though, is to have fun and really enjoy the little triumphs of learning to play an instrument or sing. I think the best part of my week is when one of my students get something that was a little bit of challenge when we started with it. Being able to see that progress is something I’m very grateful for as a teacher.

Music is one of the few subjects where students are actively involved in their learning. During my lessons, students are singing, moving, and playing their instrument as much as possible. By facilitating lessons in this way, we’re able to create a hands-on, active learning experience.
